A WORLD OF MERT: Teachers and other school staffers use days designated for professional development to polish old skills and learn new ones. They also pick up critical training for scenarios they hope never come to pass. Today, the BES Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) took a refresher course in CPR and First Aid. MERT members also played out response scenarios, implementing the steps taken in an emergency, including administering automated external defibrillation on a practice dummy. This training goes hand-in-hand with Beaverton Schools' designation as the only certified Michigan HEARTSafe School in Gladwin and Clare Counties. #Prepared #HEARTsafe

Good morning. We want to share some important information with parents, guardians, school staff and the community regarding a threat made by a student toward a fellow student and our process in resolving the issue. First, please know that all students are completely safe and conducting business as usual this morning in both buildings. School administrators were made aware of a threat yesterday afternoon. The threat was assessed per school safety protocols and the student making the threat was suspended. Following established school safety procedures, there was a heightened police presence at both schools this morning; this was out of an abundance of caution and the school day began without incident. Our safety team, which includes administrators, law enforcement and school counselors, continues this morning to work through the process to determine next steps and assess not only the threat itself, but the efficiency of our actions in response, as is standard operating procedure in such situations. We appreciate the thorough work our staff and partners in law enforcement have done to ensure the continued safety of students and staff.

LOOK! UP IN THE SKY! - It's the latest collection of stars assembled as the BES Students of the Month. They include, from l to r, Parker Longstreth, Grayson Coston, Scarlett Tenwalde, Coleson Gasche, Raelynn Myers, Blake Simpson, Zayne Hamilton, Ethan Maka and Tarryn Hannahs. Congrats and #GoBeavers.

SINGALONG AT BES: Now *that* was a Christmas sendoff. We had singing. We had dancing. We had Santa doing The Griddy (ask a kid what it is.) And we had a steel-cage musical chairs showdown for the ages. The video tells the tale: https://youtu.be/BXmu1gYzrcg. Happy Holidays, Beaver Nation. We'll see you next year. #GoBeavers

SEASON'S GREETINGS: This holiday season, try to slow down. Relax. Enjoy the time with your loved ones. And...breathe. Your friends at Beaverton Schools thank you for helping make our successes possible this year, and we wish you a prosperous and joyful 2025. Classes resume on Jan. 6.

WE WISH YOU A MERRY LIVESTREAM: Join the virtual party this afternoon as BES presents its annual Kindergarten Christmas Program live and in full color. The show starts streaming at 1:40 p.m. on the Beaverton Schools YouTube channel at https://rb.gy/grl1oc. #I'mTellingYouWhy

GRINCHY GREETING: Like sleighbells and candy canes, a visit from the Grinch is practically a holiday tradition at Beaverton Elementary. Today was the big day, and as kids approached the front doors of the school, they grabbed the chance to exchange hugs and high-fives with the gangly green guy. #UnwashedSocks

While our students were excited to perform in their play this afternoon, we have decided to cancel due to the current road conditions. More information will come at a later date for the rescheduled performance. Thank you for your understanding. Stay safe!

IT'S WRITTEN IN THE STARS: Say howdy to November's BES Students of the Month: Liam Ryan, Caroline McLaren, Neveah Lewis, Delbert Shinabarger, Bodie Wood, Kaden Komlassan, Bentley Newton, Ember McDonald and Emma Knake. Congrats and #GoBeavers.

A MAJOR DEAL: Beaverton math teacher Kossi Komlassan woke up a Captain in the Michigan Army National Guard this morning, but he'll go to bed with a new title. BJSHS was the ceremonial site for Komlassan's promotion to Major this afternoon, and he was surrounded by his family, his lieutenant colonel and the entire sophomore class he instructs every day. As Operations Officer for the 119th Field Artillery Regiment - AKA the Red Lions - Komlassan knows all about leadership, commitment and getting the job done well, and it was a proud day for the entire district.. Check out the video of the ceremony at https://t.ly/Vyz6r. Congratulations, Major. #Respect #GoBeavers
