STATEMENT FROM THE BEAVERTON SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION

At its meeting Wednesday night, the Beaverton Schools Board of Education announced it had reached an agreement with Superintendent Joseph Passalacqua to part ways, effective March 31.

At the same meeting, the board appointed Tom House as the district’s interim superintendent beginning April 1. House, a longtime educator in the area, was superintendent at Harrison Community Schools from 2008 until 2015 following a distinguished career as a teacher and principal in that district. Since then, he’s presided in interim leadership roles at Farwell Area Schools and the Career & Technical Education department at Clare-Gladwin RESD. House’s responsibilities in Beaverton will include overseeing day-to-day district operations and assisting the board as it conducts a thorough search for the district’s next superintendent.

The board wishes to assure community stakeholders, staff and students that its focus remains squarely on continuing to provide the best possible learning environment for students while maintaining its fiduciary responsibilities to the community.

The board has no further comment at this time.
