THE SATISFACTION OF A DAY AFIELD: If you haven't hugged a Beaverton Elementary PTO member lately, do so ASAP. They do great things for our school all year through, and today they put on a whale of a Field Day, offering students games, fun and the chance to dunk an adult without repercussion. Thanks, BES PTO, for everything you do to make this place special. #BESPTO #GoBeavers

MINIATURE MATRICULATION: Look out, first grade! Here comes the latest edition of Kindergarten graduates from BES, singin', dancin' and advancin'. The high school version of the Class of '24 walks the stage tonight at 7 p.m. at BJSHS. If you can't make it in person, catch the livestream at bit.ly/4256sc3. #GoGrads #BeavertonAlways

OUT FOR A STROLL: Ahead of today's 1 pm. Kindergarten Graduation at BES, our fifth- and sixth-graders matched up with the newest batch of l'il graduates for a quick walk of honor around the school. #GoGrads #GoBeavers

SENIOR STUFF: Their last day was Tuesday, but with Honors Night starting in 30 minutes (!) and graduation 24 hours later, our seniors spent the first day of the rest of their lives...in school. You can't have graduation without graduation practice, so the gang pulled together today to do just that. Stream both events at bit.ly/4256sc3, starting at 6:55 p.m. tonight and tomorrow. #GoGrads #GoBeavers

MUST-SEE: If you can't make it in person to BJSHS for Honors Night Wednesday and Graduation Thursday, tune in to the Beaverton Schools YouTube page to catch our livestream of both events. We'll begin broadcasts on each night at 6:55 p.m. and bring all the senior excitement straight to you. Find us live both nights at https://bit.ly/4256sc3 and #GoGrads.

PARENTAL EXPERTISE: Children don’t need perfection - they need connection. Parent Coaching is a FREE resource provided by Beaverton Schools and Parent Guidance that connects you to regularly scheduled meetings with a coach, as well as content created by therapists. Parent Guidance is here to support you throughout the summer with Parent Coaching. To register for ongoing support from a coach, visit cookcenter.info/coaching.

SUPERSTAR DOUBLE-SHOT: As we barrel toward the school year's finish line, we need to catch up on some housekeeping. Presenting for your adoration and appreciation...the April and May BES Students of the Month. For April, we've got (left to right) Zaidyn Beverage, Rylinn Smith, Brayden Wilson, Conner Sheehan, Julia Russell, Serenity Coppola, Charlie Dodman, Archer Coppola and Mackenzie Porter. And for the month of May, here's Braxtin Ireland, Richard Garvie, TJ Corkins, Aiden Eagle, Trixie Kingry, Charley Szalka, Kenzie Russell, Matthew Shinabarger and Tanner Yott. Congrats to all and #GoBeavers.

STANDOUTS: Beaverton students participating in the Career & Technical Education program brought home some accolades from the recent CTE Achievement Awards. Among the winners were Connor Christian (Advanced Manufacturing); Ashlynn Martinson (Automotive Technology); Reese Longstreth and Cody Muma (Construction Trades); Tandyn Grafft (Criminal Justice); Emma Wilbur (Digital Media); Nolyn Bell (Health Occupations); and Nick Ficek (Welding Technology). Kudos to these standout performers and #GoBeavers.

TAKING THE LEAD: They say 90 percent of success in life is showing up. But Beaverton seniors Gabe Drudge and Eva Reader and juniors David Abreu and Jaydin Bair do quite a bit more than that. The quartet just completed the 2024 Gladwin County Youth Leadership program, in which students learn about the inner workings of their community through interacting with local leaders. Congrats to our four affirmed leaders and #GoBeavers.

WE HAVE LIFT-OFF: One long-held tradition at BES to close out the year is our sixth-grade Science classes launching rockets. Ably and safely guided by Mrs. Lyons, Mr. Fry and guest-launcher Mr. Hayes, students fired their rockets off into the beautiful morning sky and retrieved their parachuted remnants, learning some cool lessons along the way. #BeaverScience

HONORS AND AWARDS: Tuesday's BJSHS 2024 Awards Assembly left no stone unturned in recognizing this year's brightest and best with departmental and club awards. Check out the full gallery of photos at bit.ly/3wykXeT and #GoBeavers.

SUPERINTENDENT UPDATE: The Beaverton Schools Board of Education will interview four finalists for its vacant superintendent position next month. Board President Adam Zdrojewski announced on Tuesday the names of the four candidates and the dates and times for their interviews, all of which will take place in the Beaverton Jr./Sr. High School Media Center. All the details can be found at https://bit.ly/3QLwNsT.

UNBREAKABLE: Our peer-to-peer LINKS program - which matches student mentors in grades 6 through 12 with younger students who can use a little extra attention - closed out the school year today with a smile-filled field day. Eighty students enjoyed ice cream, beach balls, bubbles, hula hoops, frisbees and the crowd-pleasing parachute, among other activities. It was an excellent finale to a program whose astonishing two-year climb in participation and friendships has inspired neighboring districts to implement similar programs, and it should pay significant dividends in student growth, happiness and performance for years to come. #Proud

VOICES HEARD: It was Election Day at BJSHS, and we did it up right. After weeks of preparation, candidate speeches and campaigning, next year's 7-12 graders assembled in the media center and recorded their choices for student government. The Gladwin County Clerk's office and several township election officials were on hand with official election equipment to administer the proceedings. Students got a look at how it all works in real life, from long lines to verifying their identity to spoiled ballots to uncontested races. It was an excellent civics lesson and a great reminder of our sacred responsibility to participate in this grand experiment we call democracy.

BAND TOGETHER: Don't miss one of your final chances to see this year's musicians on full display. Join us for the Beaverton Music Department's Spring Program Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at BJSHS. There is no admission fee, but donations will be gratefully accepted.

HE'S ELECTRIC: Congratulations to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 692's newest recruit, senior Reese Longstreth. BJSHS hosted a signing event today for Reese, his family and his friends to celebrate his first step in this exciting career path. Great job, Reese, in representing your school and your community, and good luck. #GoBeavers #Proud

COURSE CORRECTION: Congratulations to Gary Blossey and Nicco Gonzalez, Beaverton's 2024 Turnaround Award recipients. Each year, two Beaverton seniors are selected by BJSHS staff as recipients of the Clare-Gladwin RESD Turnaround Awards. This honor is typically given to students who have overcome difficult circumstances and a challenging start to their high school careers. In making positive changes in their lives to ensure they leave high school on the best possible footing, these students deserve our respect and admiration for fighting through their obstacles and becoming solid young adults, and this year's awardees bear that out. Gary and Nicco were honored at a luncheon in Clare and received the Doug Dodge Academic Opportunity Award, a scholarship that entitles them to six credit hours of in-district tuition at Mid Michigan College. Congratulations, Nicco and Gary, and best wishes for the next step in your lives. #GoBeavers

KIDS IN CHARGE: What do you get when you mix zombies, surfers, Star Wars, robots, and a bunch of other stuff that is frankly indescribable? You get Monday night's BES Spring Showcase, a student-driven combo platter of music, dance and skits created and performed by students in grades three through five. We'll let the photos do the talking, but you better believe the kids had F-U-N. #GoBeavers

C’EST BON: French students presented their final unit projects at BJSHS today, and the whole school was invited to join in. The students shared their work "gallery walk style" in the media center, using French for their presentations in conjunction with pantomiming. Staff, students and friends of the program were invited to have a look. #UneVueMagnifique #GoBeavers
