Mrs. Sprague's science class was shocked to learn about static electricity in class today! We got out the Van de Graaff generator to see who was brave. A good time was had by all! Have a great weekend!
SPEAK UP & TAKE PART: Beaverton Schools invites you to join us for a true community dialogue at the I+E community forum series on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the BJSHS Media Center. Though the topic of the evening will be behaviors, we'll also share some other important info and leave time for Q & A. Please let us know you're attending by scanning the code or visiting bit.ly/4hlgQ7G. You can also use the form to offer topics, concerns or questions. #SuccessStartsByShowingUp
A WORLD OF MERT: Teachers and other school staffers use days designated for professional development to polish old skills and learn new ones. They also pick up critical training for scenarios they hope never come to pass. Today, the BES Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) took a refresher course in CPR and First Aid. MERT members also played out response scenarios, implementing the steps taken in an emergency, including administering automated external defibrillation on a practice dummy. This training goes hand-in-hand with Beaverton Schools' designation as the only certified Michigan HEARTSafe School in Gladwin and Clare Counties. #Prepared #HEARTsafe
IMMORTALIZE YOUR PARENTAL PRIDE: Parents, if you're looking for a way to leave a lasting message for your Class of '25 graduate, few things endure like a senior ad in the school yearbook. Check for an email that was sent to parents Jan. 17 or contact Allison Grice at algrice@beavertonschools.net for more details.
Good morning. We want to share some important information with parents, guardians, school staff and the community regarding a threat made by a student toward a fellow student and our process in resolving the issue. First, please know that all students are completely safe and conducting business as usual this morning in both buildings. School administrators were made aware of a threat yesterday afternoon. The threat was assessed per school safety protocols and the student making the threat was suspended. Following established school safety procedures, there was a heightened police presence at both schools this morning; this was out of an abundance of caution and the school day began without incident. Our safety team, which includes administrators, law enforcement and school counselors, continues this morning to work through the process to determine next steps and assess not only the threat itself, but the efficiency of our actions in response, as is standard operating procedure in such situations. We appreciate the thorough work our staff and partners in law enforcement have done to ensure the continued safety of students and staff.
Beavers Student section and Pep Band cheered the Beavers teams on to a victory against Farwell tonight!
STAYIN' ALIVE: Seventh-graders at BJSHS got a quick lesson in the art of saving a life on Friday as MyMichigan Community Educator Zach Krahner ran through an intro course on CPR. Krahner was peppered with great questions and what-ifs by a respectful but engaged audience. #Lifesavers #GoBeavers

BJSHS was the ceremonial site for Komlassan's promotion to Major this afternoon, and he was surrounded by his family, his lieutenant colonel and the entire sophomore class he instructs every day. As Operations Officer for the 119th Field Artillery Regiment - AKA the Red Lions - Komlassan knows all about leadership, commitment and getting the job done well, and it was a proud day for the entire district.. REALITY CHECK: Learning essential life skills was at the top of the to-do list at the annual Reality Store event today at BJSHS. This collaboration between Beaverton Schools, Clare-Gladwin CTE and Mid Michigan College presents students - in today's case, seniors - with scenarios set in the not-so-distant future, like: You're just starting a career, or college, or both. What kind of job do you need to support your aspirations and live the life you want? Students are given a strict budget and need to account for life's necessities like housing, transportation, food, insurance, entertainment and more. Their mission is to make it all fit within their means. The lessons are numerous and valuable - everything from career planning to money management. #LifeSkills #GoBeavers
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: It's hard to enjoy sports without concessions, right? Well, it's also hard to provide concessions without volunteers. So the Beaverton Sports Boosters is asking friends, fans and family of BJSHS and BES sports to step up and take a turn behind the concession counter this winter, and they've made it easier than ever to sign up. Just visit bit.ly/3WQkVrP to choose your sport and date. And thanks. Community spirit is what makes this place special. #GoBeavers
