RECOGNITION: The BJSHS Academic Awards roared back this morning, thanks to expert show-planning by our NHS crew. Outstanding students were applauded across all sectors in an excellent prelude to next week's graduation activities. #BestAndBrightest #GoBeavers

THE YEAR-ENDER: Beaverton Schools' LINKS program, which pairs student mentors with younger students with autism or other disabilities, celebrated the end of its first year today with some exercise, some fun and some ice cream. Participants from all grade levels got together and played games, ran obstacle courses and genuinely enjoyed the connective moments they shared today and throughout the year. This program promises to be even bigger next fall as more mentors join the ranks, and the only word to describe its initial run this year is "success." #GoBeavers

A BIT OWLY: Beaverton Aviary...check that, Beaverton Elementary was chock-full of activity today. As the week's fifth-grade bird house exhibit wound down, students were treated to a visit from the husband-and-wife team of Joe and Barb Rogers of the Wildlife Recovery Association. The Rogerses brought several feathered associates with them, generating what we in the education biz call 'big science' as well as plenty of oohs and ahhs. #BirdsAreCool #GoBeavers

FAMILIES WITH DENTAL NEEDS: The GLB Health Centers Dental Bus is returning to Beaverton Schools next week, and if your student needs some preventative dental services, this is a great opportunity. The mobile dentist will be at the school Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week for all interested K-12 students. Services offered will include preventative measures like cleanings, exams, fluoride treatments and sealants. Download and complete the form below or pick one up at either school office. #GoBeavers

TO BE FAIR...: Mrs. Johnson's students in the Jobs for Michigan's Graduates program hosted a job fair this morning for young folks looking for work this summer (or beyond). Several local employers were on hand to meet the many students who showed up dressed for success with résumés in hand, ready to make good eye contact and a great first impression. Thanks to all our local employers who took part in helping prepare our kids for life outside of school. #Employable #GoBeavers

HERE'S TO OUR HEALER: Today is National School Nurse Day, and there's nobody better at that job than our very own Jada Carland. She covers both buildings like a blanket, keeping our kids safe, healthy and ready to learn, and she's vital to our educational community. #Healthy

We have ROCKSTARS for teachers! Dan and Allie Bennett sponsored a fantastic snack cart today for all of our teachers. It was a welcoming surprise of all sorts of goodies. We are thankful for the generosity and kindness!

Teaching is a little sweeter with a muffin and a cup of coffee! A special thank-you to Melodie and Mike Dodman for the morning pick-me-up and the Flatt family for the cups.

LIFE SAVERS AND TURNAROUNDERS: It was so busy at BJSHS last week that we're still talking about it. All ninth-graders in Mrs. Sprague's Integrated Science classes spent several days working to become CPR/AED/First Aid certified, a truly noble accomplishment. On Tuesday, Mrs. Wagner's Business students went to Dow Diamond for a tour and a presentation on the business of baseball; they also took in a game. And on Thursday, the Clare-Gladwin Area School Board Association's annual TurnAround Achievement Awards luncheon took place and BJSHS seniors Austin Eastman and Leiyah Mungin were among the very deserving honorees representing Beaverton. Congratulations to...well, everybody. #Proud #GoBeavers

SHORT STORY SHORT: We'll keep this simple: Beaverton teachers are amazing, and all week long, we're going to celebrate them for everything they do for our kids. Watch this space for Beaverton teacher profiles that are equal parts heartfelt and instructive, and if the mood strikes you, reach out to a teacher you love and tell 'em why. Nothing says 'thank you' like saying the words 'thank you.' (But chocolate's a pretty decent Plan B.) #TeacherAppreciationWeek #GoBeavers

DOSE OF REALITY: Learning essential life skills was the order of the day at the annual Reality Store event this morning. This collaboration between Beaverton Schools, Clare-Gladwin CTE and Mid Michigan College presents students with scenarios set in the not-so-distant future like: You've got a husband and three kids. What kind of job do you need to help support your family and live the life you want? Students are given a strict budget and need to account for life's necessities like housing, transportation, food, insurance, entertainment and more. Their mission is to make it all fit within their budgets. The lessons are numerous and valuable - everything from career planning to money management. #LifeSkills #GoBeavers

MOSTLY EXCELLENT, WITH A CHANCE OF LEARNING: When it comes to Michigan weather, we all feel like experts. But this guy actually is. WNEM Chief Meteorologist Chris Easlick stormed the BJSHS halls today, stopping by to chat with students about the science behind weather forecasting and what it takes to have a career in meteorology. #CoolWeather #GoBeavers

THE TRACK IS BACK, JACK! - Our middle schoolers christened it with a two-team meet last week, but last night marked the first time in several years that our high school track and field squad was able to host a meet, welcoming Gladwin and Clare to our sparkling new facilities. Seeing the red and white running, jumping and throwing at a home meet once again was a long time coming, but it was a glorious sight to behold. #Grateful #GoBeavers
