Tonight's Feature Events: Before the games begin, we honor the legacy of athletic greats as we induct our newest members into the Hall of Fame. Witness the celebration of their outstanding contributions to the sport. Doors to the gymnasium will open at 4pm. At approximately 5:15pm, we invite you to celebrate with us the inducting of the three new members into the Beaverton Sports Hall of Fame including, longtime softball coach, Aaron Wentworth; two sport standout, Jackie Ashcroft and basketball phenom, James Ruhle. At 6pm, the girls Battle for the Cedar River Cup: The Lady Beavers and Lady Flying G's face off for the prestigious Cedar River Cup. Boys Battle for Butch: The rivalry is heated as the Beavers and Flying G's go head-to-head for the coveted "Butch" trophy. Legendary Coach is Retiring: A true champion, Roy Johnston, hangs up his red blazer after an incredible 50 + year coaching career. Don't miss this special tribute to Roy at the end of boys game. Roy has been a mentor who has inspired generations of students, players, and coaches alike. This night promises to be unforgettable! NEW LEARNERS: Beaverton Elementary Schools is accepting applications for enrollment for the 2024-25 school year and will host a New Learners Info Night Feb. 28 to introduce families to the school. “Because we offer more than kindergarten for young learners at Beaverton, we wanted to open the process up to students who may be better suited for our preschool or our Young Fives program,” said BES Principal Shawna Hartwell. “That’s why we’re expanding the traditional Kindergarten Roundup event to include those younger ages as well.” The New Learners Info Night, set for 6 p.m. on Feb. 28 at BES, will offer families a chance to hear about the different programs, meet with staff and tour the facilities. Hartwell said Beaverton’s growing preschool program is one reason behind the event, but not the only one. “Next fall, in addition to our three kindergarten classes and our preschool and Young Fives classes, we plan to offer an additional preschool opportunity,” she said. “Working with families earlier in the process will help ensure that each student is placed in the best position to succeed as they begin their careers here at Beaverton Schools.” Hartwell said families are welcome to enroll at the district anytime by visiting beavertonschools.net/enroll or calling 246-3020. “This event is a great way for young students and their families to get to know the staff and the school,” she said. “Once they’re enrolled, we’ll follow up with student assessments to determine the appropriate starting point for them in our school. It’s all designed to provide the best learning environment possible for new students at this crucial juncture of their development.”

REMINDER: Our excellent Parent Involvement Night series continues Wednesday at 5 p.m. at BES with guest speaker Sarah McCurdy from the Clare-Gladwin Great Start Collaborative. Her topics will include "How to Help Your Child Handle Emotions" and "Communication Between Children and Parents." Free childcare and free pizza will also be available and one family will win tickets to a BJSHS athletic event. All families are welcome to join us.

SO MUCH DRAMA! - A trio of Beavers took their Forensics skills to MSU's Spartan IE Invitational Saturday and performed very well, with Olivia Smith and Ashlynne Krzyzaniak earning 4th place in Duo 9/10 and Ford Kingry coming up just short in an ultra-competitive Informative 9/10. THE BATTLE OF BEAVERTON: Students and staff at BES kicked off Reading Month this afternoon in high style as legends of yesteryear Bridget Rise, Sarah Wildfong, Denette Kranz and Judy Brubaker came out of retirement to lace up the gloves and climb into the ring for the books they love. Eventually, fisticuffs gave way to Rock/Paper/Scissors. ***Attention Beaverton Community*** Fans, including past players, coaches and friends, are invited to join in the last home game celebration for Coach Roy Johnston to be held following the completion of the varsity boys basketball game on Hall of Fame Night Feb. 23. Coach Johnston will retire after 55 years of coaching and 50 years with the Beavers as the winningest coach in Michigan boys basketball history. The celebration will last about 30 minutes. A limited number of tickets will be available for pre-sale in both the Beaverton and Gladwin High School offices starting Monday, February 12th. GATHER ‘ROUND: Beaverton Schools is exploring implementation of the Junior High Model for curriculum and campus realignment, and we’re hosting three community meetings to share the details with stakeholders and gather feedback. The meetings are set for Feb. 8 at 5:30 p.m.; Feb. 15 at 6 p.m.; and Feb. 29 at 5:30 p.m. All meetings will be held at the BJSHS Media Center.
